Kanno Jigoku Ryokan
"Kanno Jigoku Ryokan" is a secluded hot spring inn located in Kokonoe Town, Kusu District, Oita Prefecture. Discovered in the late Edo period and established in 1928, it is a historic therapeutic hot spring site. The "Dan no Jigoku Sauna," which opened in July 2023, features a self-löyly style with a wood-burning stove, offering an exquisite alternation of high-temperature sauna and cold spring bath. The cold spring (Reisen) at about 13-14°C is said to be effective for burns, fractures, and sprains, and can also be used as a cold plunge bath after the sauna. The inn building is equipped with natural hot spring baths and cold spring baths, providing relaxation in the "Totonoe Heating Room" and "Totonoe Deck." At an altitude of about 1100m on the slopes of the Kuju Mountain Range, you can enjoy a unique cold and warm alternating bath experience.
