About Hyotan Onsen
"Hyotan Onsen" is a historic hot spring facility in Kannawa Onsen, Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, and the only hot spring in Japan to have received three Michelin stars seven times in a row. Its greatest feature is "Nama-yu," a 100% pure, free-flowing natural hot spring bath cooled to the ideal temperature without adding water, using the independently developed bamboo cooling device "Yujutake." A wide variety of baths are available, including a rock bath shaped like a gourd, the famous Takiyu, and an open-air bath. After working up a powerful sweat in the traditional steam bath that uses hot spring steam, you can enjoy an exceptional cool-down in a luxurious cold plunge bath cooled with the original spring water. From sand baths and 14 types of family baths to Jigoku-mushi cuisine experiences, you can fully enjoy Beppu's hot spring culture.
Hot SpringONSEN
Large Bath
100% pure free-flowing natural spring water, instantly cooled by the original "Yujutake" technology. With a variety of baths, including a rock bath shaped like a gourd, an open-air bath facing the sky, and the famous Takiyu, you can enjoy the fresh "Nama-yu" with your whole body. The soft water gently loosens away fatigue.
Family Bath
A private space with 14 different types to choose from, including indoor baths and open-air baths with different atmospheres. Each room also comes with its own steam bath, allowing you to spend a luxurious time enjoying the famous free-flowing spring water with your family or loved ones, without worrying about those around you.
Sand Bath
A Beppu-only experience of being buried in sand warmed by hot spring steam. It is milder and more gently warming than a typical sand bath, helping you sweat comfortably without overheating.

Steam Bath
A traditional natural steam sauna that uses hot spring steam exactly as it is. A thick cloud of steam and gentle heat envelops your entire body, promoting a strong sweat. Warmed slowly by the rich power of the hot spring, the feeling of release when you step outside is truly heavenly.
Cold BathCOLD BATH
Cold Plunge Bath
A very rare spring-water cold plunge bath filled only with original hot spring water that is instantly cooled by the original "Yujutake" device. The 100% pure hot spring water, with no tap water added at all, is astonishingly soft on the skin and gently, refreshingly cools down a body heated by the steam bath or the hot spring.
