About Tsukuba Onsen Kirari Bettei

"Tsukuba Onsen Kirari Bettei" is a day-use hot spring facility in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture. In the open-air area surrounded by hinoki cypress trees, as you sink into the water, the treetops spread across your entire view, enveloping you in a quiet sense of bathing in the forest. The sodium chloride spring that rises from deep underground gently caresses the skin, and in one corner of the open-air bath you can enjoy a free-flowing bath that pours in the source water exactly as it is. In the indoor baths, you can soak in a high-concentration carbonated spring whose fine bubbles wrap around your entire body, while in the sauna room, fragrant steam infused with aroma rises at regular intervals. After working up a sweat, there is also time to sweat even more deeply in the bedrock bath area, where the heat of the minerals fills the space. It is a hideaway for adults to breathe in peace.

SaunaSAUNA

löyly Sauna

At fixed times, aroma water is poured over heated sauna stones, and aromatic steam surges through the room in a löyly Sauna. The air, which had been quiet until then, suddenly grows dense, and you may find yourself holding your breath at the sensation of heat brushing across your skin. By the time the heat wave passes, sweat pours from your whole body, carrying away the heaviness that had been building deep inside.

Cold BathCOLD BATH

Cold Plunge Bath

A cold plunge bath that quickly cools down a body still holding heat. When you sink in up to your shoulders, the flush fades away without a sound, leaving only a refreshing chill as if a thin film had formed over your skin. As you stay still, you begin to hear only the steady sound of your own pulse. When you get out and step into the open-air bath surrounded by hinoki cypress trees, the breeze that has passed through the trees gently dries your wet skin, bringing a deep sense of release.

Warm Room

This bedrock bath area links together a main room filled with radiant heat from fire furnaces, small cave-like rooms, a room lined with multiple kinds of mineral stones, and a cooling room to ease the heat. Wearing the provided clothes, men and women can relax together, and simply lying down allows far-infrared rays to reach deep into the body as sweat gradually beads to the surface. There are also rooms and a terrace for reading and resting, letting you repeat the cycle of warming up and taking a break as much as you like.

02HOT STONE SPA

Salt Warm Cave

A quiet room surrounded by rock salt that only women may enter. Softly lit salt walls release mineral-rich warmth, and as you lie back, even your breathing begins to settle. The gentle heat slowly moisturizes the skin, and after sweating, your skin feels smooth and calm. It is a space where you can spend time of your own, cut off from the bustle.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
