About Koganeyu
Koganeyu is a sento (public bathhouse) in Sumida, Tokyo. Founded in 1932, the long-established bathhouse has been fully renovated into a one-of-a-kind space, with a DJ booth and a beer bar spreading out from the front desk. The men’s bath has an automatic löyly sauna with powerful radiant heat from bakuhanseki (maifan stone), the women’s bath a hinoki-scented sauna where you pour löyly yourself, and a deep cold plunge with a constant flow of groundwater pulls the flushed body clean and taut. Soak in the hot bath of ultra-soft water, gentle on the skin, or the strongly carbonated bath, and the fatigue of daily life unwinds from the core. After bathing, quench your thirst with craft beer brewed in-house, then drift straight off to a comfortable sleep in the lodging space on site.

Main Bathhouse
The baths use ultra-soft water that is gentle on the skin: groundwater pumped from below and then run through a water softener. Tubs of different temperatures and character include a properly hot bath, a medicinal bath infused with ingredients that change daily and a strongly carbonated bath. The water pressure of the generous volume of water and the jets work out stiffness throughout the body, and combined with alternating hot and cold bathing, the fatigue of daily life unwinds from the core.

SaunaSAUNA
Automatic Löyly Sauna
A serious sauna filled with the scent of Japanese hiba, where a whole wall of bakuhanseki gives off powerful radiant heat. Regular automatic löyly fills the room with steam, and the enveloping heat draws out a sweat all at once. As you sit with the heat in the quiet, the weariness of body and mind unwinds from deep within.

Sauna with Löyly You Pour Yourself
A compact, calm sauna wrapped in the fresh scent of Japanese hinoki. You can pour löyly yourself using aroma water that changes daily: pour water over the sauna stones and a rich steam rises with a pleasing hiss. Adjusting the humidity and scent to your liking, you can take your time over a refined sweat.

Cold BathCOLD BATH
Cold Plunge
A cold plunge lavishly fed with a constant flow of clear groundwater pumped from below. The mellow water gently envelops the whole body and pleasantly cools you down after the sauna. Afterward, you can linger in a blissful afterglow while gazing at the bathhouse mural painted by Yoriko Hoshi.

Large Cold Plunge
A generously deep cold plunge right in front of the sauna. Soft groundwater pumped from below flows through it constantly, and the cold pulls the flushed body crisply taut to the core. Once fully cooled, head to the open space for cooling off in the open air, with the sky overhead. Feeling the city breeze, you can sink into total immersion.
