About Modern Toji Only You
Modern Toji Only You is a day-use onsen bathhouse set deep in the forest in Minamiashigara, Kanagawa Prefecture, built around the idea of harmony with nature. Its highly alkaline simple spring, rising from deep underground, is a “bath for beautiful skin” known for its silky, velvety feel. The saunas include the Vihta Sauna, with automatic löyly and the scent of vihta in the air, along with two new additions: the Ruska Sauna in the men’s open-air area, overlooking the river, where you can pour löyly yourself, and the BARREL SAUNA in the women’s open-air area. With a soft cold plunge of natural water from the Hakone water system and an area for cooling off in the open air where you feel the forest air and the murmur of the river with your whole body, you can deeply restore body and mind in a total immersion you won’t find in the city.
Hot SpringONSEN
Forest open-air bath
An open-air bath in the midst of nature, surrounded by broadleaf woodland, where you can enjoy forest bathing and onsen bathing at the same time. The water is kept on the lukewarm side, so it is easy on the body and you can soak for a long time. With the murmur of the river and birdsong as your soundtrack, give yourself over slowly to this silky “bath for beautiful skin,” and the tension in body and mind melts deeply away.
Indoor bath
A wonderfully open indoor bath with natural light pouring in through large windows. Brimming with a highly alkaline simple spring, it is a “bath for beautiful skin” that gently removes old skin cells and leaves skin smooth. Ideal for a warm-up soak before the sauna or for rewarming a body chilled from cooling off in the open air, it offers a relaxed, restful time.
SaunaSAUNA
Vihta Sauna
A serious high-temperature sauna, pleasantly scented with homemade vihta made from the Japanese white oak that grows on the grounds. With an automatic löyly system, powerful heat stimulates the whole body and draws out a deep sweat. The compact room holds its heat well, and with a strong setting that satisfies even sauna devotees, it delivers an authentic sauna experience worthy of Finland itself.
Ruska Sauna
A sauna hut in the men’s open-air area where you can pour löyly yourself. Through its large window you look out over the flowing Kazusa River and the lush forest, and feel as if you are becoming one with the nature of each season. Pour water over the stones at your own pace, adjusting the humidity and heat, and spend a quiet, meditative time turning inward.
BARREL SAUNA
A new barrel sauna in the women’s open-air area, instantly recognizable by its rounded form. The circular structure moves heat around efficiently, warming the whole body gently and evenly. In a space with a private feel, wrapped in the warmth and scent of wood, you can take a leisurely, relaxing sauna break while sensing the forest air.
Cold BathCOLD BATH
Cold plunge
A cold plunge generously filled with Kinran water, natural water drawn from deep underground in the Hakone water system. Exceptionally soft on the skin, it gently wraps a body flushed from the sauna as it cools you down. The water is so pure you can even drink it, and you can savor a blissful cool-down while feeling nature’s bounty with your whole body.

By car
- About 30 minutes from Oi-Matsuda IC on the Tomei Expressway (Prefectural Road 78 → Daiyuzan Station → Prefectural Road 723 toward Saijoji)
- About 30 minutes from the Odawara area (Prefectural Road 74 → turn left at the Iizawa intersection → Prefectural Road 723 toward Saijoji)
Shuttle
- Free shuttle from Kaisei and Daiyuzan stations (reservation required)
- First runs leave Kaisei Station at 9:25 and Daiyuzan Station at 9:40
Book the shuttle by phone at least one hour in advance on the day (for the first run, get in touch by the day before). Shuttle bookings are taken from 8:00 to 20:00.
