About Aizu Higashiyama Onsen Shosuke no Yado Takinoyu

"Aizu Higashiyama Onsen Shosuke no Yado Takinoyu" is a long-established ryokan with more than 140 years of history, standing in the birthplace of Higashiyama Onsen. Right beside the inn, the Yuka River flows past Fushimegafuchi, a natural waterfall known as a scenic spot and power spot in Aizu. From the large public bath and the open-air bath called Takimi no Yu, guests can enjoy bathing while taking in the breathtaking negative ions and the beautiful waterfall up close. The hot spring water is mildly alkaline, with a very smooth, gentle feel on the skin, and is a calcium, sodium, sulfate, and chloride spring. The inn also offers 7 private baths with different atmospheres, as well as rooms with open-air baths. In 2023, a full-fledged private sauna was added to the rooftop private open-air bath Yumezora no Yu, where guests can enjoy the ultimate experience of exclusive hot spring bathing, sauna sessions, and open-air relaxation on the terrace.

Hot SpringONSEN

Large Public Bath Fushimi no Yu / Open-Air Bath Takimi no Yu

A historic large public bath at the birthplace of Higashiyama Onsen. In front of the adjacent open-air bath Takimi no Yu stands Fushimegafuchi, a natural waterfall that pours down dramatically in white spray. While bathing in the clear, smooth, colorless water that is gentle on the skin, guests can fully immerse themselves in the powerful sound of the river and the abundant negative ions rising from the waterfall, for an overwhelmingly spectacular hot spring experience.

Large Public Bath Shosuke Bath / Open-Air Bath Inishie no Yu

A spacious large public bath named after the famed figure associated with the inn, Ohara Shosuke. It features a comfortable indoor bath scented with hinoki cypress, as well as open-air baths called Inishie no Yu and Shosuke Hiba Bath, where guests can gaze at the waterfall and reflect on the history of the Edo and Meiji periods. The baths switch between men and women morning and evening with Fushimi no Yu, so guests can enjoy Higashiyama Onsen, a renowned hot spring, in different settings in either large public bath.

Rooftop Open-Air Private Bath Yumezora no Yu

A paid rooftop open-air private bath available by advance reservation for 45 minutes. Guests can privately enjoy the beautiful mountain ranges surrounding Higashiyama Onsen, the Aizu night sky, and a glittering star-filled sky in a luxurious setting. By alternating between this bath and the attached full-fledged private sauna, families and groups can quietly enjoy an exclusive, deeply relaxing totonou experience without worrying about anyone else around them.

Private Scenic Bath Shosuke no Yu

A paid private bath in a very atmospheric location, with the sound of the Yuka River flowing right below. Guests can savor the blessings of the hot spring at their own pace in a private space while listening to the soothing river sounds and the rich noises of the natural waterfall. The bath is barrier-free and spacious enough for even larger groups, embodying the Japanese aesthetic sense of wabi-sabi and harmony.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
