About Ugusuyama Onsen Shoho

"Ugusuyama Onsen Shoho" is a top-class onsen hotel in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, and has long been selected as one of the "Five-Star Inns." Its greatest appeal is the observation open-air bath, "Utsukushino-yu," where you can take in sweeping views of the Northern Alps and the glittering nightscape around Matsumoto Castle. Designated by the Ministry of the Environment as a "National Health Hot Spring Area," this celebrated bath lets you fully enjoy its superb panoramic views and excellent waters. The prefecture's largest public bath, "Tsukama no Yu," is also fully equipped with a garden open-air bath, a jacuzzi, and a gentle low-temperature sauna. Private spaces are also abundant, including rooms with open-air baths and three reservable baths.

Observation Open-Air Bath Utsukushino-yu

An exceptional observation bath with sweeping night views over Matsumoto Castle town and magnificent views of the Northern Alps, available on a men-women alternating basis. The bath has a wonderful sense of floating, as if the tub is connected to an unobstructed panoramic vista, and its superb location is one of its greatest charms. The adjoining indoor bath area offers a variety of baths, including the "Silk Bath," where fine bubbles gently envelop the skin and provide a refreshing effect, allowing you to enjoy a luxurious soak while admiring the scenery.

Public Bath Tsukama no Yu

A public bath boasting one of the largest spaces in the prefecture. The spacious main tub lets you stretch out your arms and legs comfortably, gently easing away the fatigue of a day of travel. In the garden open-air bath connected directly to the indoor bath, you can soak while admiring the beautiful plants and trees that change with the seasons. It also features an open-air jacuzzi, where fine bubbles and ultrasonic waves pleasantly stimulate and loosen the body, letting you spend a leisurely, relaxing time.

Private Garden Baths

Three paid private baths with different atmospheres, where you can quietly enjoy the hot springs in a private setting. They include the garden-style bath "Goten no Yu," which connects an indoor bath with a garden open-air bath and is appealing for its spacious design; the bright, Japanese-modern "Kihei no Yu," centered on the warmth of wood; and the modern, calm, adult atmosphere of the dark-stone-clad "Hisho no Yu." With family or someone special, you can luxuriate in these famous waters without worrying about anyone else.

Low-Temperature Sauna

A low-temperature sauna with gentle heat, available in the men's and women's public baths. This special Emipas Sauna design uses far-infrared radiation, radiant heat, and air convection, making it less likely to feel the breathlessness often associated with sauna rooms. Because the temperature is kept mild, it is easier on the body and allows you to slowly and steadily work up a gentle sweat from deep within. Even sauna beginners and those who do not like very hot saunas can relax with confidence, enjoy a long and comfortable session, and spend a meditative, restful time.
