About JAM Fukui Katsuyama Mountain Resort

"JAM Fukui Katsuyama Mountain Resort" is a highland hotel located within one of western Japan's largest mountain resorts in Katsuyama, Fukui Prefecture. It was rebranded in April 2026 and evolved into an even more fulfilling resort. The on-site Hoenji Onsen Sasayuri's greatest attraction is its panoramic open-air bath, where you can look out over the magnificent mountains of the Hakusan Range and a sky full of stars. Soak in the silky natural hot spring water, a sulfur, sodium chloride, and bicarbonate spring, and relieve your body after activities from the core with the jacuzzi, reclining bath, and a quiet dry sauna. It also features an all-season indoor pool and a barbecue area.

Hot SpringONSEN

Hoenji Onsen Sasayuri (open-air bath)

An open-air bath in the highlands, located at a high elevation with a magnificent panoramic view of the Hakusan Range stretching out before you. The scenery shifts from the mountains glowing red at dusk to a sky sparkling with countless stars at night, a breathtakingly beautiful transition. The sulfur-containing bicarbonate spring, with its silky texture, gently envelops tired bodies after skiing or activities and warms you from the inside out.

Hoenji Onsen Sasayuri (indoor bath)

A large observation bath with a wide variety of tubs in a spacious setting. You can enjoy the hot spring at your own pace in jacuzzi, reclining, and standing baths, among others. Soaking your whole body in the high-quality natural hot spring with its smooth texture, you can gaze out at Katsuyama's rich natural surroundings through the large windows and spend a truly soothing, private moment.

SaunaSAUNA

01SAUNA

Dry sauna

Men'sWomen's

A full-fledged convection-style dry sauna installed in the public bath. With no TV and a quiet interior free of unnecessary noise, you can enjoy a meditative sauna time while facing the heat. The warmth seeps in gradually and draws out a generous sweat. It is ideal for refreshing after a day on the slopes or after mountain climbing, while keeping in mind the refreshing highland scenery spreading out beyond the windows.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
