Kochoran

A historic ryokan offering spectacular views of Toba Bay and the purifying waters of Sakakibara Onsen for pilgrims to Ise Shrine

Mie Toba City

"Kochoran" is a modern Japanese-style onsen ryokan in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, where every room has an ocean view. The large public bath is filled with natural hot spring water from Sakakibara Onsen in Tsu, a famous spring long revered as a purification bath before worshipping at Ise. This mildly alkaline simple hot spring, with its rich, silky texture, is highly acclaimed as a beauty bath that helps remove dead skin cells and leaves the skin smooth. It offers the ultimate bathing experience, from a granite indoor bath with panoramic views of Kohama Bay right in front of you to the Nagisa open-air bath, where you can feel the sea breeze all over your body.

Hot Spring & Bath Information

Sakakibara Onsen

TypeNatural Hot Spring

Water is brought in from Sakakibara Onsen, one of Mie Prefecture's most celebrated hot springs, and used as a purification bath for worshippers heading to Ise Jingu, cherished since the Manyo era. This highly viscous, mildly alkaline water feels like a natural beauty serum, gently clinging to the skin and leaving it exceptionally smooth after bathing. On clear days, you can relax and watch boats moving across the deep-blue waters of Toba Bay while enjoying this superb beauty bath. *As there is only one Nagisa open-air bath, it operates on a rotating schedule for men and women. A special bathing garment is provided for women.
