An extraordinary alternating bath experience with a miraculous orange-glowing iron-carbonated cold mineral spring and the sound of a waterfall

Nagano Chino City

"Yamano-yado Meiji Onsen Mishaka no Yu" is an isolated inn with hot spring baths, tucked away in the Oku-Tateshina Onsen area of Chino City, Nagano Prefecture, and proud of a history spanning more than 130 years. The iron-carbonated spring, cherished since the mid-Edo period as a "clearly healing bath," emerges colorless and transparent, then glows a mystical orange when it comes into contact with the air. In addition to the large public bath and open-air bath, it also offers a luxurious cold water waterfall bath using its own source water at around 24 degrees. Alternating between the hot spring and the cold spring, known as alternating hot-and-cold bathing, delivers outstanding effects for promoting circulation.
