Ryokan Tanigawa is a historic hot spring inn associated with Osamu Dazai, nestled in the Tanigawa Onsen area of Minakami Town, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture. Located right below Tanigawadake Manaitagura, it offers the luxury of enjoying 100% free-flowing natural hot spring water blended from four private springs that have been gushing since the Edo period: Fudo no Yu, Fujin no Yu, Minegishi no Yu, and Yakushi no Yu. Guests can relax in the high-ceilinged, open and spacious hinoki wood public bath, Hinoki no Yu, as well as in the rustic rock-built open-air bath, soaking in an exceptional beauty spring that warms you to the core.

Public Bath Hinoki no Yu

A full-fledged wooden public bath made entirely of high-quality hinoki cypress, with a high ceiling and an open, spacious feel. The water is a luxurious blend of the four private hot spring sources in Tanigawa Onsen, which have been flowing since the Edo period and remain extremely abundant and clean, and it is completely free-flowing with no added water or heating at all. The bath is filled with the rich, refreshing scent unique to hinoki, and you can fully enjoy this famed spring, with its gently smooth, skin-clinging feel, with your whole body.

Public Bath Open-Air Rock Bath

A dynamic open-air bath made of rock, adjoining the public bath and full of rustic charm. Fresh water from the private spring is also poured in at 100% source flow, with no added water or heating whatsoever. While feeling the clear highland air of Tanigawa, you can spend a blissful bathing time looking out over the sparkling greenery of the trees by day, and at night, listening to the murmuring river and the sound of the wind in the quiet, while gazing up at the beautiful star-filled sky overhead.

A very private hinoki wood open-air bath with a sweeping view of the majestic Mount Tanigawa and the beautiful surrounding mountain ranges right in front of you. Its greatest appeal is the chance for families, couples, and married pairs to luxuriate in fresh, free-flowing natural hot spring water all to themselves without having to worry about anyone else. At night, with no lights around, a sky full of stars spreads overhead, and you can fully savor a special private hot spring atmosphere while being caressed by the clear Tanigawa breeze.

[Public Bath] 14:00 to 10:30 the next morning. Available overnight, but closed from 19:00 to 19:30 for cleaning and alternating between men and women. Cleaning time is from 10:30 to 13:00. The private open-air bath Hinoki no Yu is available from 14:00 to 21:00. 40 minutes, 2,500 yen.
