The hot spring water is free-flowing and drawn directly from the source at Kita Jigokudani. It combines two spring qualities, sulfate spring and bicarbonate spring, and the abundant water is said to be excellent for beautiful skin. The large public bath is equipped with a full-scale dry sauna for both men and women, and after the sauna you can enjoy a superb refreshingly relaxing outdoor air bath while feeling the crisp, clean wind of the plateau.

Large Public Bath Akakura Onsen

Akakura Onsen is a famous hot spring drawn from Kita Jigokudani at the foot of Mount Myoko. It combines two outstanding spring qualities, sulfate spring and bicarbonate spring, and is a natural hot spring with free-flowing water that has long been loved by many. The faint, gentle scent of sulfur and the black and white onsen minerals drifting in the water, known as yunohana, are proof that this is a true natural hot spring. It warms the body thoroughly and leaves the skin smooth and supple.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
