About Mimatsu Awara Onsen

"Hokuriku Fukui Awara Onsen Mimatsu" is a hot spring ryokan in Awara City, Fukui Prefecture. Set around a corridor garden, it offers a serene Japanese atmosphere filled with calm and comfort. Its pride is two large communal baths available on a rotating basis for men and women: "Taiyoden," with an open dome-shaped ceiling and a scenic open-air bath, and "Meigetsuden," featuring Indian sandstone flooring inspired by a full moon, where guests can fully enjoy the high-quality waters of Awara Onsen. It also offers luxurious rooms such as the annexes "Miyu" and "Jiyu," all with open-air baths, allowing guests to savor the warmth of this famous hot spring in complete privacy.

Hot SpringONSEN

Large Public Bath Awara Onsen

Two large communal baths: the dome-style, open and airy "Taiyoden," and the sandstone-floored "Meigetsuden," which is inspired by a gentle full moon. These baths make lavish use of the weak alkaline waters of Awara Onsen, known for their soft, enveloping feel on the body. In Taiyoden, guests can bathe while listening to the sound of a waterfall and enjoy a rustic open-air bath, while in Meigetsuden they can relax in a beautiful setting surrounded by smooth, slip-resistant Indian sandstone. Each bath has its own distinct character, offering a famous hot spring that gently melts away daily fatigue.

In-Room Open-Air Bath Awara Onsen

Private hot spring baths located in the open-air bath rooms of the annex "Miyu," the special-floor rooms "Yuyu no Kai," and "Haruka no Kai," among others. Each room features a beautifully designed bathtub with its own style, such as hinoki cypress, ceramic, or a substantial stone bath. From check-in to check-out, guests can enjoy the excellent waters of Awara Onsen whenever they like, with no concern for time or other people. While looking out over the corridor garden or the countryside, they can indulge in an exceptional private bathing experience.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
