Kumamoto Minamiaso Village
A collective name for the hot spring resorts that bubble up in Nangodani, embraced by the outer rim mountains of Aso. In this village of fields and springs spread across the floor of one of the world’s largest calderas, inns are dotted with baths of differing spring qualities. Many open-air baths overlook the Five Peaks of Aso, and it also serves as a base for visiting springs such as Shirakawa Spring, selected as one of Japan’s 100 Famous Waters.
