Open-Air Bath in Guest Room

Open-Air Bath in Guest Room

An open-air bath with free-flowing natural hot spring water, installed exclusively on the wood decks of certain guest rooms (DW type and D type). This luxurious space lets you enjoy the famed waters whenever you like, as many times as you like, without worrying about anyone’s gaze. Soaking while looking out at Noboribetsu’s rich forest right in front of you, with the melody of the wind as background music, you will be wrapped in an extraordinary sense of ease, completely cut off from the bustle of everyday life.

Editors' comment

The open-air bath on the wooden terrace of the guest rooms is filled directly from the source. The Noboribetsu forest spreads out before you, with only the sound of the wind as accompaniment. This is an onsen attached to your room that you can enter as often as you like, at any hour, without concern for other guests. The property draws from four different private spring sources. The top-floor large communal bath, Kumoi no Yu, uses salt and iron springs, and its edgeless tub appears to flow straight into the forest below. In the basement, Chien no Yu offers sulfur spring water drawn from Jigokudani, as well as a rare radium spring. The abundant, mineral-rich water retains heat well, leaving warmth that lingers long after bathing. This is a property where, after moving between different spring waters, you can return once more to the onsen in your own room.

Open-air bath in guest room

Open-air bath in guest room

A private open-air hot spring bath provided in the rooms of the special floor, Inoza. Overlooking the exclusive garden, you can enjoy your own private bath time without being disturbed by anyone. With the sound of the wind and the songs of birds as background music, it is a luxury to soak leisurely in the soft water from the resort’s own spring. A quiet, peaceful space in harmony with the surrounding natural environment creates a special moment that helps you forget everyday life.

Editors' comment

Rooms on the special "Inishie no Za" floor come with an open-air onsen bath. The water is drawn from the property's own alkaline simple hot spring source, known for its gentle, soft texture on the skin. What fills your view is not a shared vista, but a garden reserved exclusively for that room. You can soak while listening to the wind and birdsong, with no need to mind anyone else. The large communal bath, Hokuten Zabo no Yu, uses the same private spring source, and its open-air bath overlooks the Yobito Forest, which changes expression with the seasons. In front of the entrance, the Kaen no To tower has a free foot bath, lit by fire in the evenings. A sauna is also available.

You can enjoy high-quality natural hot spring water as many times as you like, whenever you like, without being disturbed by anyone. Surrounded by clear air and silence, you can spend a luxurious, relaxing time to your heart's content.

Editors' comment

From the open-air bath attached to the guest room, you can take in Lake Toya and the nature beyond it without worrying about anyone else's gaze. Being attached to the room means there is no set time limit, and you can soak again and again, morning or night, whenever you please. The water is a sodium bicarbonate-sulfate spring known for excellent heat retention, so warmth remains deep in the body even after you leave the bath. Soaking in the cool air and returning to a room that still feels warm is part of the experience. The large communal bath is lit by natural light through large windows, and the open-air section offers a view that extends all the way to Mount Yotei. A sauna is also available.

The private bath Maru no Yu is equipped with an indoor bath with flowing spring water and a barrel sauna. In a quiet space all to yourselves, it is a blissful private setting where you can enjoy excellent hot spring water and sauna to your heart's content.

Private Bath "Koma no Yu"

Private Bath "Koma no Yu"

The private bath Koma no Yu comes with its own open-air bath. Surrounded by clear air and the silence of nature, you can relax at your leisure in a private open-air bath with someone special.

Editors' comment

There are two private baths here. Koma no Yu has its own open-air bath, letting you face the lake in clear air and natural quiet. Maru no Yu is an indoor bath fed directly from the source, and also includes a sauna. Further along a corridor from the large communal bath, there is a natural wild hot spring that wells up from the ground itself. Separated from Lake Shikotsu by only a rocky outcrop, the depth of the water here shifts with the lake's own water level. On the day of our visit, the open-air onsen water was a golden color, so mineral-rich it even tinted the tub itself.

For those who prefer complete privacy, a private family bath is also available. On the day our editorial team visited, the panoramic open-air bath on the 8th floor of the main building offered a clear view of Lake Akan under a bright blue sky, with Mount Oakan rising directly ahead. The water has a gentle touch, inviting you to warm up, take in the view, then sink back in once the air turns cool. It is the kind of onsen that makes you want to repeat that cycle again and again. Open-air bath in guest room

Open-air bath in guest room

A private open-air bath installed in a detached cottage and in some guest rooms. The bath on the spacious wooden-deck terrace is generously filled with high-quality hot spring water. In a quiet space where no one will disturb you, you can enjoy a special bath that lets you fully take in Jozankei's abundant nature while feeling the gentle scent of the forest and the pleasant sunlight.

Editors' comment

Some cottages in a separate building, as well as select guest rooms, come with their own private open-air bath. The tub sits on a spacious wooden deck terrace, filled with clear, colorless sodium chloride spring water. It has a mild salty quality, and the salt that remains on the skin slows the evaporation of sweat, so warmth lingers deep in the body long after leaving the bath. Surrounding it is the old-growth forest of Jozankei, with nothing to disturb the onsen but birdsong and the rustle of leaves. The large communal bath also opens onto the forest through high ceilings and large windows, its open-air section enclosed by the same old-growth trees. A proper Finnish-style sauna is available as well.

Editors' comment

The natural hot spring view bath in guest rooms is exclusive to the Royal Floor and the Marina Sauna Suites. Beyond the window lies the port town of Hakodate, its city lights glittering after dark. You can sink into the brownish, strongly saline spring water without anyone watching. This water retains heat exceptionally well, so warmth stays with you long after you step out. The Marina Sauna Suites also include an in-room sauna, letting you complete the full cycle of heating and resting without leaving the room. The shared onsen facilities are the 14th-floor large communal bath and the rooftop open-air bath, built with an edgeless infinity design so the water's surface appears to merge with the sky and sea.

Editors' comment

The water here comes from the Niseko Konbu Onsen chloride spring, known for its smooth texture and its ability to warm the body from the core.
