Kumamoto Kashima Town
A vast healing space in Kumamoto featuring natural hot spring water drawn directly from the source and a wide variety of saunas
"Kashima Yumoto Suisyun" is a day-use hot spring facility in Kashima Town, Kumamoto Prefecture. Its main attraction is the stone baths, where you can enjoy rich therapeutic spring water drawn directly from the source, bubbling up from deep underground in Kumamoto. The men’s bath features a meditation sauna with self-löyly, while the women’s bath has a soothing salt sauna. Both sides are also equipped with a powerful auto-löyly sauna. After cooling off in the deep cold plunge bath, guests can enjoy an outdoor bathing break in the open-air area lined with Adirondack chairs, offering pure bliss. With a newly added barrel sauna, bedrock bath rooms to tour, a restaurant, and plenty of relaxation space, it is a luxury resort-like retreat where you can forget the time and reset both body and mind all day long.

An open-air stone bath where you can luxuriate in the rich Fire Country Bisho-no-Yu, a hot spring that wells up from ancient geological strata, drawn directly from the source. This water, which was once ancient seawater and has become fossil water, is rich in minerals and highly prized for its excellent heat retention, warming you from the core. Inside the main bath area, there is a wide variety of tubs to enjoy, including a high-tonicity carbonated spring in which carbon dioxide is dissolved into the natural hot spring water, a milky bath where fine bubbles envelop the skin, a circulating bath that kneads the body with diverse water currents, a reclining bath for leisurely soaking, and pot baths, making it possible to enjoy a full tour of the baths to your heart’s content.

A fully featured high-temperature sauna that has earned tremendous support from sauna enthusiasts. Far infrared heat penetrates deep into the skin, drawing out sweat all at once with powerful heat. During regularly held auto-löyly sessions, aroma water is poured over heated sauna stones, filling the room with intense steam rich in negative ions. The unique exhilaration created by the sweeping wave of heat is exceptional, delivering a profound sense of refreshment.

A quietly tucked-away sauna in the men’s bath that supports self-löyly. In a calm space free of TV and background music, wrapped in silence, you can spend a mindful moment focusing on your mind and body. Pouring water over the sauna stones at your own pace releases gentle steam and pleasant heat that softly envelops your whole body. It is an intimate, private-feeling space ideal for those who want to step away from the noise and savor the heat slowly.

A salt sauna prepared in the women’s bath, where fine steam continuously rises. The heat is kept mild, so even beginners can use it comfortably without feeling stifled. While wrapping the whole body in a veil of moisture, gently rubbing salt onto the skin helps remove dead skin cells and leads to smooth, silky skin. With the synergistic effect of steam and salt, this is an exceptional relaxation sauna that enhances beauty from both the inside and the outside.

A crisp, refreshing cold plunge bath that instantly cools down a body heated by the sauna. It has ample depth, so you can soak up to your shoulders and cool your whole body evenly. The coldness tightens the body and closes the pores opened by the sauna, which also enhances heat retention. After getting out of the bath, you can lean back in one of the Adirondack chairs neatly arranged in the open-air area and seamlessly transition into an exceptional outdoor air bath while enjoying the pleasant breeze.

Most of what we surveyed never even made it onto this site. This book is a further cut from what did. Our editor bathed in every onsen and sauna in it, and wrote only what they confirmed on the ground.
