About OND SAUNA
OND SAUNA is an outdoor sauna in Takeo, Saga Prefecture. Built on the Five Elements philosophy, three saunas—Wood, Metal and Fire—stand scattered through the forest, each offering a different experience. At the Wood Sauna you climb a spiral deck to become one with the forest up among the treetops, and a wood-burning stove that is among the largest in Japan lets you sit deep in the steam. The mirrored exterior of the Metal Sauna melts into the forest, and at the Fire Sauna you open your heart around a bonfire. With a cold plunge of free-flowing natural groundwater and spaces for cooling off in the open air on the rooftop and in the forest, you take in Takeo’s nature with all five senses.

Fire Sauna
A bonfire sauna on the theme of passion. A fire burns at its center, and gathered around the flames you loosen and warm body and mind. The space is designed so that conversation with friends and family comes naturally, making it a place to deepen bonds. Gazing into the flickering flames draws out honest thoughts and feelings that usually go unspoken.
Metal Sauna
A fully mirrored sauna on the theme of order. Its stainless-steel mirror surface reflects the forest, and it sits in nature like a cool, abstract work of art. Inside, the room is finished in warm pine, and the benches sit a step higher than the stove so the heat reaches all the way down to your feet. In this still, quiet space you turn inward and reach totonou to the fullest.
Wood Sauna
A sauna on the theme of growth. Climb the spiral deck and you reach a height where you feel the forest at eye level with the trees. The structure leads from the ground-floor sauna room up to a rooftop space for cooling off in the open air, and the ascent itself is part of the experience. The soft heat of a wood-burning stove among the largest in Japan seeps slowly into your core. The benches are angled to invite conversation, and the area is open to men and women together, in swimwear.

Natural Groundwater
A cold plunge of free-flowing natural groundwater. Always brimming with fresh water, it is crystal clear, and its crisp, pure cold wraps around your body. After you have sat deep in the steam of the wood-burning stove, the cold pulls the body taut in an instant, and the contrast between heat and cold brings on totonou all the faster. The water is soft and easy on the body even on a long soak. It is placed near each sauna, so you can move smoothly between hot and cold.
