Giant Sauna and Swimable Cold Plunge Bath
📅November 24, 202510:00
I was contemplating the plans for the last day until that morning. It was decided that I would leave Nagoya in the afternoon. I was thoroughly debating which sauna to visit in the morning. In conclusion, a 2-night, 3-day trip wasn't enough. There are still about five places I want to visit. I want to go to all of them, but since that's impossible, I have to make a decision. What to sacrifice and what to gain. Faced with such an ultimate choice, I decided on two facilities to visit. One of them is 'Canal Resort.'
Due to the plan to visit two facilities in the morning, it became a whirlwind visit. The stay was 30 minutes. Within that time limit, I enjoyed the sauna to the fullest. I passed through the resort-style entrance and completed the reception. I rented a towel and headed to the large bath. The restaurant and other facilities are very well-equipped, bustling with many customers from the morning. It seems suitable for visiting with a partner or friends for fun. However, today I don't have the luxury to enjoy those. The target is solely the large bath and sauna. I hurried to the men's bath, quickly undressed, and entered the bath. I cleansed myself and soaked in the open-air natural hot spring. Although the time was short, I felt what the facility had to offer. While carbonated baths are not much different wherever you go, hot springs offer something unique to the location, so I entered.
After warming my body, I headed to the sauna room.
Time-wise, I could probably only do one set. I usually do at least three sets, but I opened the sauna door with the resolve to dedicate everything to one set. Upon entering, I was surprised by the spaciousness. It was large enough to host a small-scale comedy show. In the center of the sauna room, there were two large iki stoves emitting powerful heat. The room temperature was 100°C. With the automatic löyly every 10-15 minutes, aromatic mist was sprayed, increasing the humidity and making it even hotter. It was quite a punchy sauna. I could feel my morning body waking up from the sauna's heat. After sweating for about 10 minutes, I moved to the open-air cold plunge bath.
There are two cold plunge baths, one being the 'swimmable cold plunge bath,' synonymous with Canal Resort. The other is a carbonated cold plunge bath. Without hesitation, I entered the swimmable cold plunge bath. With a depth of 2 meters, my feet couldn't touch the bottom. It was spacious enough to accommodate at least 15 people. I submerged my head, assumed a backstroke position, and floated. It felt incredibly good. I might not have experienced such a liberating cold plunge bath before. However, with a water temperature of 13°C, I couldn't stay long. I exited the cold plunge bath by holding onto the edge of the tub.
I couldn't bring myself to enter the carbonated cold plunge bath. I have bitter memories of carbonated cold plunge baths. Previously, at a facility called 'Suishun' in Matsuiyamate, Kyoto, I entered a 13°C carbonated cold plunge bath. I could never forget the intense pain in my male organs from that time. Carbonated cold plunge baths and male organs don't get along. This is my conclusion.
I digressed, but I enjoyed the giant cold plunge bath at Canal Resort, and although it was just one set, the morning sauna was over. Being able to feel the facility even with one set was significant. There's a big difference between just looking at photos and actually experiencing it. I wanted to stay longer, but my next destination awaited, so I left the facility with tears in my eyes.
The next facility will be the last sauna in Nagoya.
That facility is 'Yunoya Natural Hot Spring Yukichiro.'
