Safi Spa Maiko Experience Story

Eve of the Sauna Journey

📅November 21, 202518:00
When traveling towards the Tokai region via Hyogo Prefecture, it has become a customary event to stay at the Seaside Hotel Maiko Villa Kobe as a pre-stay. This time, I'm using the three-day holiday from November 22nd to 24th to go to Aichi Prefecture, but I've decided to start the journey on the night of November 21st. I left work early and moved, checking in around 6 PM. Of course, I was unusually high-spirited in the car during the move, singing loudly all the way, so when I told my name at the check-in counter, I was surprised to find my voice was hoarse. The Seaside Hotel Maiko Villa Kobe has a sauna produced by Hiroshi Ota, known as the 'Sauna King' in Japan. It features two types of saunas and two types of cold plunge baths, a facility that even sauna enthusiasts would admire. Tonight, I'll have a pre-party here. After showering and washing my body, I first entered the sauna called 'Mirumiru.' 'Mirumiru' is designed to enjoy communication, such as conversations with friends, with a large TV installed. Inside, various setups are prepared, such as an area where you can lie down and a vibra bath with a water temperature of about 30°C installed in the sauna room to cool your body, offering a sauna experience that is hard to find in other facilities. Since I am alone, I couldn't enjoy conversations, but I decided to enjoy the sauna lying down. In general public bathhouses, it is difficult to lie down in the sauna room. This is because many saunas are designed for sitting and there are other customers, making it difficult. However, a sauna designed from the start for lying down is different. By lying down, you can warm your entire body evenly and experience a completely different sensation than sitting in a sauna. Personally, I feel more relaxed lying down and feel like I can stay longer than usual. I warmed my body while being soothed by the nice scent of the wood used in the sauna room. It's time for the cold plunge bath. There are two types: a vibra bath with a water temperature of about 17°C and a cross-counter cold plunge bath with a water temperature of about 9°C. I chose the 17°C without hesitation. My body, heated in the sauna, gradually cooled down. Regarding the temperature of the cold plunge bath, I think everyone has their preferences, but I like cold plunge baths around 15-17°C the most. It's gentle on the body and provides a good cooling effect. When the water temperature is in the single digits, it's difficult to relax and soak, and you might feel cold as it chills you to the core. While it's entertaining, if there's a cold plunge bath at 15-17°C, I won't enter the single-digit one. After resting on the chair next to the cold plunge bath, I entered the second set of saunas. For the second set, I headed to 'Mokumoku.' Unlike 'Mirumiru,' 'Mokumoku' is designed to enjoy self-löyly in silence. Conversations are also prohibited. The lighting inside is dim, making it a sauna for those who want to converse with themselves. I was moved by the fact that saunas with such different concepts coexist in the same facility and entered 'Mokumoku.' Fortunately, I had 'Mokumoku' all to myself. Therefore, I was able to enjoy self-löyly many times. I believe that in saunas where you can do self-löyly, you should actively perform löyly. This is because if left unattended, the sauna room will dry out more and more. By regularly pouring water on the sauna stones to generate steam, the comfort inside the sauna room increases, and it's gentle on the skin. After thoroughly enjoying self-löyly, my body was completely finished. After that, I enjoyed one more set each of 'Mirumiru' and 'Mokumoku,' and the pre-party ended. Saunas at a prestigious hotel are less crowded and comfortable. I was able to use 'Mokumoku' privately for both sets, and there were only about three people in 'Mirumiru,' so it was very comfortable. Enjoying hot springs and saunas in a crowded public bathhouse is nice, but sometimes it's necessary to enjoy the sauna quietly in such a cool environment. Being in a different environment than usual provides new stimulation. This is important in everything. I plan to enjoy a sauna trip in Aichi Prefecture for the next three days, but just thinking about what kind of world awaits me excites me so much that I couldn't fall asleep. However, gradually my consciousness faded, and I fell into a deep sleep.
