About Hakusanyu Rokujo Branch

'Hakusanyu Rokujo Branch' is a sento in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. While preserving its old-fashioned charm, the beautifully maintained facility has been renewed repeatedly and now features signature amenities that captivate sauna fans from across Japan. The contrast bathing between the strong-style sauna, renowned for its intense heat, and the deep cold plunge bath filled with luxurious natural groundwater from Kyoto in a gushing flow is truly a blissful experience. The open-air area also includes a newly added outdoor air-cooling space, making it a long-loved local favorite where you can fully enjoy time to totonou while feeling the wind with all five senses.

High-Temperature Sauna

Men's

This far-infrared sauna was significantly enlarged through renovation. Brick-surrounded sauna stoves release powerful heat, and the moment you step inside, you are enveloped in a forceful wave of warmth. Though it is a fiery, hard-setting sauna, the warmth of the wood and a moderate level of humidity are maintained, encouraging comfortable, deeply rooted sweating. There is a dedicated sauna lounge, and a refrigerator for storing drinks is also provided, a thoughtful touch that is much appreciated.

High-Temperature Sauna

As on the men's side, this is a strong-style far-infrared sauna with a high heat output. The spacious layout allows you to relax into the heat without stress, even when it is busy. Powerful radiant heat that gradually wraps around the whole body makes you break into sweat in no time. In this clean and comfortable space, you can wash away everyday fatigue along with your sweat.

The signature cold plunge bath of Hakusanyu, made with luxurious natural groundwater. From two lion mouths installed on the wall, high-quality soft water pours in with astonishing force. Its depth is also well secured, making it possible to immerse yourself all the way up to your neck at once. The soft water, nurtured by Kyoto's rich soil, has an exceptionally smooth feel against the skin, and while it is sharply cold, it also offers a strangely reassuring quality that makes you want to stay immersed forever. It is drinkable, and many guests even fill PET bottles to take this famous water home.

Free-Flowing Natural Groundwater Cold Plunge Bath

Women's

As on the men's side, this is an exceptional cold plunge bath where high-quality natural groundwater overflows in a free-flowing stream from lion-shaped spouts. The soft, skin-adhering water gently, yet thoroughly, cools down a body heated by the sauna. The refreshing sensation created by the generous water volume, mellow water quality, and ample depth is a comfort you will never forget once experienced.
